Thomas P. Sokol, MD FACS, FASCRS

Thomas Sokol, MD, is a highly accomplished practitioner and surgeon. He earned his degree at the University of Health Science, Chicago Medical School, followed by five years of general surgery training at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center. He started practicing in 1986, having completed Specialty Fellowship training in colorectal surgery and surgical endoscopy at the Carle Clinic/University of Illinois.

Double board certified, he is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He’s currently an attending surgeon in the Division of Colorectal Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He’s also an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the David Geffen UCLA School of Medicine.

Dr. Sokol’s main clinical and research interests are directed toward the surgical treatment of anal incontinence, chronic constipation, diverticular disease of the colon and colorectal cancer. As the Associate Director of the Colon and Rectal Surgical Residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (one of only a few such residencies in the US), he has integrated didactic and practical surgical and endoscopy teaching for Specialty Residents over the last eight years.

His group, California Colorectal Surgeon, continues a tradition of practice excellence that his predecessors and Dr. Max Lomas began in the mid 1940s. Married to his wife, Lenore, Dr. Sokol has a daughter and a son.
